Community Canning Event in partnership with St. Olaf Community Campus

Address:  St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 2901 Emerson Av N, Minneapolis

We will be canning tomatoes together.  The Food Preservation Network provides everything you need – tomatoes, jars, equipment and instruction!

Leaders from the Food Preservation Network will provide a short instructional overview and work with you to prepare and preserve tomatoes. We will use the kitchen at St. Olaf Church. You will leave with 5-quart sized jars of tomatoes safely preserved in jars!

We will be canning apples and making applesauce together.  The Food Preservation Network provides everything you need – apples, jars, equipment and instruction!

Minneapolis Food Preservation Pilot Launched

Wednesday, September 1, the first class of the Food Preservation Network met for an informative evening with Debbie Botzek-Linn, University of Minnesota Extension Educator for Food Science.  Skilled cooks, canners, chefs and local food organizers were invited to participate in the first project of the Food Preservation Network – a pilot program training food preservation leaders to instruct and manage community canning and preservation events.  There are 19 participants in this initial launch of Community Food Preservation Guides for the city of Minneapolis.

The group gathered comes from all corners of the city,  represent a wide-age range and each brings many experiences to this project. One thing they all share knowing the benefits of food preservation for healthy local living, and an interest in sharing this skill broadly  through community-building events!  Stay tuned.  We have five events planned for our pilot program this fall.
